Murder at Miskatonic for Cthulhu Live

Posted By Matt-M-McElroy On July 22, 2008 @ 5:47 am In News | No Comments

There was a lot of cool stuff going on this year for Free RPG Day. I managed to pick up a couple of different items when Noble Knight Games did their sale for the promotion. I got the Hunter: the Vigil Quickstart from White Wolf Publishing, the Trail of Cthulhu adventure from Pelgrane Press and the Murder at Miskatonic scenario from Skirmisher Publishing.

Not everyone was so lucky…either they did not have a local store that was participating in the event or they missed out on one or more of the items up for grabs. A few of the publishers have made some of their freebies available online since then (for example, White Wolf has a different Hunter: the Vigil Quickstart available called The Hunt [1]).

It is no big secret that I am a fan of Cthulhu Live. I wrote a review of the 3rd Edition Core Book [2] last year and a mini-review of House of Pain [3] after it was released. We also have Grim’s review of The Old Man at Damascus [4].

Well, the folks at Skirmisher have posted a new version of Murder at Miskatonic [5] at RPGNow.

Miskatonic University, that ivy league institution of higher learning that has produced many a fine young adult ready to shape the world the way they see fit. With diverse
courses such as Peruvian Basket Weaving, Modern Occult Legends, and Ancient Languages, Miskatonic has a class for any student. And with the award-winning sports team, the Fighting Cephalopods, even the athletic scholar can find his path to a brighter future among these hallowed halls.

There is, however, a class not in the curriculum that one person on campus is about to earn a masters in. That class is Murder 101. This class has only one test, but the final is a real killer.

Unlike the original pamphlet that was handed out on Free RPG Day, this download is not a freebie. Not a huge deal in my opinion, for $2.99 you get the original scenario and 10 extra pages so you can include new players (and new twists). So, even if you did get your hands on the Free RPG Day version this has extra goodies worth picking up.

Bonus is that you can easily print out just the pages you need for your players and can mix-n-match with pages of the Core Book [6] if you feel like getting creative.
