My 4-yr-old adores this book. He made us read it 5x the first night we had it. He seems to identify with the protagonist Bobby, as he too, can't eat enough fish---especially sashimi. The next morning, we also discovered to our delight that his Pottery Barn frog hoodie-towel looks very much like Bobby's costume. He even understands that it's a parody of "Where the Wild Things Are" and seems to enjoy that. A bonus is that in one of the illustrations you can clearly see one of the Deep Ones' buttocks...cute naughty stuff for a preschooler.

The book is adorable and not in the least scary, but adult Lovecraft fans will enjoy the references. I highly recommend it!

I need to get this. I love Ken Hite, I love H.P. Lovecraft, I love Andy Hopp, and I love Maurice Sendak. Sounds like a no brainer.

Have you seen DOC WILDE AND THE FROGS OF DOOM? It's a Doc Savage pastiche and a novel, not a picture book, but also has lots of Lovecraftian elements inspired by the same stories as Hite's book. It's quite good.
