Heads up to all aspiring artists and designers out there. The Hugo Awards, known throughout the literary world as science fiction’s most prestigious award, is offering you a chance to design their logo. While their awards have been topped by the shape of a rocket, the Hugo Awards haven’t really had a logo.

Although the rocket atop the Hugo Award has been one of the most visible signs of excellence in science fiction and fantasy for more than fifty years, there has never been an official logo to designate works as Hugo Award nominees or winners. The World Science Fiction Society now aims to change that by soliciting designs for such a logo, with the winning design to be the official logo suitable for use in the publishing and film/television industries.–SOURCE: Huge Awards Announces Logo Contest

Winners receive a cash prize of $500 and a number of other goodies that include credit for designing the logo and a membership to WorldCon. Contest deadline is May 31st, 2009 and the judges include Neil Gaiman and Irene Gallo who is the Art Director at Tor Books and Tor.com.

For a full set of rules, prizes and information on how you can enter this contest, visit: The Hugo Awards Logo Contest Official Rules. Good luck!
