Dragon Delves Adventure Anthology D&D Review

The Dragon Delves Adventure Anthology for Dungeons & Dragons (2024) is a collection of ten dragon-themed adventures highlighting ten unique colored dragon types. The 192-page supplement can be run as a campaign, taking players from level 1 to level 12, or as individual adventures that can last multiple sessions.

A short introduction sets the tone for Dragon Delves and gives options to run the adventures as a campaign. Each adventure is preceded by an art history devoted to a unique type of dragon showcasing their depiction over time.

The dragon-themed adventures are straightforward and have a clearly-written structure that outlines key plot points, how to prepare, key NPCs, and monsters found in the Monster Manual (2024). Following the brief set-up, the adventures launch into detailed exploration in a variety of locations and terrains. This style offers a lot of utility for the GM who wants a quick rundown of the adventure and its possibilities for their existing groups, but is short on lore.

Illustration of a white dragon by Ed KwongThe dragons present in this supplement are unique to each adventure and, as mentioned previously, are separated by dragon variety based on color: gold, silver, white, black, copper, bronze, red, blue, green, and brass. Dragon lore for the distinct varieties is absent, however, and newer GMs may be frustrated by the lack of setting.

Production-wise, Wizards of the Coast continues to offer high quality, full-color books with beautiful art in different styles and glossy covers. The alternate cover, illustrated by Justine Jones, is a bold, psychedelic depiction of a perched dragon. Each adventure is illustrated in a different style, and the images are beautifully rendered.

Designed for utility and clarity, my only complaint is that the chapters could’ve been longer to include suggestions for rewards, additional guidance for breaking up the adventure into multiple sessions, and more in-character dialogue boxes.

If you are a DM who needs adventures to run, the material in this book is enough to run an entire campaign that’s between ten to twenty-five sessions long. Though each adventure does include a dragon, there’s enough variety to ensure the players will remain vested in their goals.

Where to Find Dragon Delves

Dragon Delves can be purchased on D&D Beyond where players can get both the physical book delivered right to their doorstep and the digital edition that’s instantly playable online in D&D Beyond. It can also be found at local game stores, Roll 20 along with complete Dragon Delves map bundle on DMsGuild, Amazon, and Barnes & Noble stores.
