Street: Empathy Now Available!
By Flames | April 17, 2008
In the future, telepathy is no longer a fantasy; it’s a job.
Gina- just Gina- is a woman with no future, trying to make her living along the Street of Eyes, where people go to hire the desperate and the suicidal for their unique services. She is one of the sellers, the new underclass, who use “third eye” or “Spice”- a powerful drug that gives them the ability to read minds- as their way of making ends meet. The drug has only one downside- it drives the user insane.
Street: Empathy is the first volume of the acclaimed online series by Ryan A. Span. Buy it now from Amazon.com.

Flames Rising Favorite Horror Game Contest!
By Flames | February 14, 2008
We’re proud to announce the first Flames Rising Fan Appreciation contest. Some of you may remember that Flames Rising hasn’t always been a horror and dark fantasy webzine; it started out as a Live Action Role-Playing Site devoted to those dark and brooding vampire clans from White Wolf’s Mind’s Eye Theatre system. Through a love for gaming and other things that go bump in the night, Flames has evolved to its current incarnation, a horror webzine that shines the spotlight on up-and-coming authors, horror artists, game designers, and more!
To celebrate the new site launch, we want to show our appreciation to the fans who make Flames Rising possible by returning to our dice pool and pencils. Prizes include a variety of products from Abstract Nova, Apophis Consortium, Bob Goat Press, Cubicle 7 Entertainment, Eden Studios, Evil Hat Productions, Monolith Graphics, Neoplastic Press, Rogue Games, Snarling Badger Games, Talisman Studios and 12 to Midnight.

Del Toro & Gaiman…Strange
By Matt-M-McElroy | February 11, 2008
The animated Doctor Strange movie was a lot of fun and I’m hoping Marvel makes more of the same kind of feature. The live-action films based on Marvel characters have been pretty hit-or-miss over the last several years…
However, according to IGN, Del Toro Eyes Doctor Strange
Hellboy helmer wants Gaiman to script.
The buzz about Guillermo del Toro right now may be all about whether or not he’s directing The Hobbit (and its follow-up), but the filmmaker is also reportedly looking to give a certain Marvel Comics character the big screen treatment.
This could be a very cool movie, especially with Gaiman writing the script. The character has a lot of potential for twisted plots, clever characters and intense visuals. I’m thinking Hellboy mixed with Mirrormask.

Horror Webcomics: Call for Suggestions to Review
By Monica Valentinelli | January 28, 2008
Do you enjoy fright in your InBox every morning? Do you jump with glee when blood splatters all over your web page?
Well, new to Flames this year will be reviews of the good, the bad, and the horrific in new media formats that we haven’t covered before. We couldn’t think of a better place to start than with online horror webcomics, but we found that we couldn’t scare up enough links to places that were not only blogworthy — but that were current.
If you have a suggestion for a horror webcomic you would like included in an upcoming article, please post the link in the comments on this post. Or, if you’d rather haunt us instead, visit our contact us page and send us a message.

Flames Rising eBook Shop Updates
By Flames | December 2, 2007
You can now search by publisher at the Flames Rising eBook Shop.
This includes lots of fiction and comics (in addition to all of the RPGs). Basically all of the publishers from the various OneBookShelf sites are now listed in one handy spot.
For example, all of David Moody’s Autumn tales from Infected Books and Simon Green’s Nightside novels from Ace Fantasy or even Laurell K. Hamilton’s Anita Blake books from Berkley. The Deadworld and H.P. Lovecraft tales from Caliber Comics are only $0.99 each.
It looks like they are still working out all of the details, but it is a good start. Takes a little bit of exploring, the list of publishers is extensive. As always sales on the Flames Rising eBook Shop are appreciated and help keep Flames Rising going.
